Bay View Dental Laboratory

Bay View Dental Lab is a small family business now proudly serving dentistry for over 75 years. Through three generations, the Shafer family has maintained a steadfast commitment to customer service and high quality restorations. The innovative design and organization of our lab now combines the best of both worlds, offering the convenience of a modern comprehensive full service lab, with personal one-on-one relationships and the consistency of working with the same technician on cases. The opportunity for doctors to choose and work with the same technician for all cases encourages better doctor/technician communication, knowledge of your personal preferences, and ultimately more consistent results. With experienced technicians from around the world, we have each other’s knowledge and expertise as a resource, along with state-of-the-art materials, equipment and CAD/CAM systems. For almost three decades, our foundation and key to success has been a solid background with Dr. Dawson’s concepts in occlusion and function. This, combined with contemporary materials and techniques for cosmetics, has led to a level of predictable success in functional esthetics usually reserved for private in-house doctor/technicians teams. We have the real cosmetic/occlusal connection!

Our services address the needs of today’s contemporary fee-for-service practice. Along with most general dentistry procedures, our specialties are cosmetic work, implants, and combination fixed/removable and implant/removable cases. You will also benefit from our 30 years of experience with pretreatment case planning and diagnostic wax-ups. We view cases with the “end in mind,” and what it will take to achieve those results. From soft tissue changes, to case design and materials selection, applying that experience to case planning situations helps avoid problems and can make even complex cases more predictably successful.

Bay View Dental Lab has 30 technicians, 15 CDTs and 30 technicians that have attended one or more Dawson Academy courses.

We invite you to join our family of satisfied customers.

Protocol for comprehensive cases:

  • Study cast of originals – these should include full extension of the ridges, flanges, and palate.
  • Facebow mounted study cast of provisionals – not the preparations; this should be mounted in the office to avoid distortion in shipment.
  • Pre-op images – with and without retractors; see our photo guidelines and checklists on pages 15 and 32.
  • Diagnostic images of temporaries and full face – without retractors, that show the relationship of teeth-to-lips.
  • Shading images of natural teeth – with the shade guide in the picture.
  • Well-prepared teeth – two plane reduction; be sure to avoid undercuts with deep chamfer shoulder preps.
  • Full arch impressions of casts – including full extension of flanges and palate.
  • Accurate centric relation/maximum intercuspation bite record – we recommend Blu-Mousse or Futar D.
  • Posterior neutral zone registration – if edentulous.
  • Written detailed instructions.
  • Enough time to do a great job – usually 2-3 weeks (large cases, please call to preschedule).
