So a lot of times, you have patients that come in that need quite a bit of dental work. And for whatever reason, time commitments, financial commitments, they may not be able to do a lot of dental work all at once, so it’s really important to be able to take your treatment plans and be able to sequence them over time.
And that way, you can get the bite stable, get the decay, and the gum disease, and all the bacteriological issues stable, and then, as the patient is able to, then you can sort of proceed through the treatment plan into the definitive restorations.
A lot of people aren’t ready to jump into huge treatments right away, so being able to sequence treatment using provisional restorations, long-term provisionals such as PMMA or even composite restorations, is a great way to kind of work within the patient’s budget, and it’s also a great way to just make it easier on the dentist as well.
So always something to consider when you’re dealing with large cases, to be able to sequence them over time and don’t feel like you have to rush in and jump into putting crowns on all the teeth right away.
