Three new courses on airway and integrative dental medicine

The Dawson Academy has added three new courses in its Airway and Integrative Dental Medicine curriculum: “Airway & Breathing Related Disorders – Evaluation, Diagnosis & Treatment,” Dentistry’s Next Frontier: Integrated Dental Medicine,” and “Total Health Dentistry for Successful Restorative Private Practice.”

The new courses follow the success of The Dawson Academy’s annual International Airway Symposium that began in 2017. Dr. DeWitt Wilkerson, a longtime faculty member for The Dawson Academy and resident expert for Airway and Integrative Dental Medicine, has led the Airway Symposium alongside some of dentistry’s top researchers on the subject.

“These topics are the future of dentistry and optimal patient care,” said Dr. Wilkerson. “My colleagues and I are excited to share our knowledge and experience, leaving attendees with valuable knowledge that will help them provide life-changing care to patients.”

Dr. Wilkerson will teach the courses “Dentistry’s Next Frontier: Integrated Dental Medicine” and “Airway & Breathing Related Disorders – Evaluation, Diagnosis & Treatment.” His wide range of dentistry expertise helps other dental professionals to better understand the oral systemic connection and airway and breathing disorders.

During the two-day hands-on workshop, “Airway & Breathing Related Disorders – Evaluation, Diagnosis & Treatment,” dental professionals will:

• Understand the critical role of airway obstructions and disordered breathing in treatment planning.
• Develop specific guidelines for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of airway and breathing-related disorders.
• Identify definitive resolution options that follow The Dawson Academy principles.
• Learn how to create and work with an interdisciplinary team.

This course will be offered in East Hanover, New Jersey on April 25-26, 2019 and St. Petersburg, Florida on Oct. 25-26, 2019.

During “Dentistry’s Next Frontier: Integrated Dental Medicine,” a one-day seminar offered in Chicago on Sept. 13, 2019, dental professionals will:

• Develop a life-changing understanding of many aspects of malocclusion that previously were unexplainable.
• Differentiate their practice by elevating their reputation in the community.
• Identify new lines of business to help your practice be financially healthier while patients get healthier.

The third course, “Total Health Dentistry for Successful Restorative Private Practice” will be taught by Dr. Susan Maples as part of the Airway and Integrative Dental Medicine curriculum.

Dr. Maples, a visiting faculty member for The Dawson Academy, leads a successful total health dental practice in Holt, Michigan. She brings more than 30 years of experience in private practice and has a passion for mouth-body total health.

During this two-day course, attendees will:

• Learn how to identify 120 documented systemic oral disease connections.
• Inspire patients and team members by saving lives while creating new
  smiles.
• Discover how to drastically increase health valuing new patients.
• Significantly improve clinical case acceptance, revenue and profitability.
• Drastically expand co-referral relationships with the medical community.
• Become the total health dental practice of distinction in their communities.

This course, “Total Health Dentistry for Successful Restorative Private Practice,” will take place in Chicago on June 7-8, 2019 and in Los Angeles, California on Nov. 8-9, 2019.

The fourth annual International Airway Symposium will take place on Jan. 17-18, 2020 in St. Petersburg, Florida

This annual symposium will include presentations from leading instructors, including Mark A Cruz, DDS; Richard Roblee, DDS, MS; DeWitt Wilkerson, DMD; and Soroush Zaghi, MD.
